I’ve written about my misgivings about a CG Tintin before, but my fandom keeps overtaking my rational reservations. The thought of Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson collaborating on this material, working from a script by Steven Moffat (writer of some seriously good TV) and Edgar Wright, is pretty exciting. And now we have this pair of handsome posters. If only the last movie that had me this excited at poster stage wasn’t Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
It’s interesting to read the comments under these posters over at Ain’t It Cool (here and here) and realise just how unknown a property Tintin is in the United States. Comments like “what, maybe 6 people want to see this film?” abound (although admittedly, that was from someone going by the name “natalieportmansyummyafterbirth,” so consider the source). I imagine the massive attention this will receive in Europe is going to be something of a surprise to Mr Yummyafterbirth.
Update: Nick in comments correctly pulls me up on leaving the other co-writer, Joe Cornish, out of the title above. I was vaguely aware of Cornish as a perceived talent on the rise, though he isn’t (yet) geek catnip in the way the others are. However, Nick has drawn a link I never would have, which is that Cornish is responsible for this great mock Quantum of Solace theme song from a few years ago. I linked this on my old site at the time but never carried it across to this site as the YouTube embed I originally posted had broken. But here it is again. Anyone responsible for this is an asset to any film project in my eyes.
